ABSTRACT
This study examined the percieved roles of Parents Teachers Association (P.T.A.). This study therefore examine the role and responsibilities of the P.T.A. in the affairs of public secondary schools in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State using a descriptive survey technique.. The findings indicate that P.T.A. help a lot in fund raising for setting up of structures, installation of discipline in schools, students welfare, resources management, etc. It has also revealed that effective communication helps a great deal in school success. Among other recommendations is that government should provide for the organization as to disabuse their minds that government only thinks of the organization only when they need money. The objectives of the study were to find out the extent to which the PTA has effectively managed and contributed in the administration of secondary schools in Osun state. To this effect, the descriptive survey method was adopted for investigation and data collection. For the purpose of the study, an open ended questionnaire which was validated by experts in the department was pilot tested and gave a reliability which signified that the instrument was reliable for the study. The instrument used for collection of data or information in this research is mainly the questionnaire. The research question was administered to five respondents selected randomly in Osogbo Local Government Areas of Osun State. PTA has contributed to school plant to a little extent, but made great extents of contributions to raising the moral tone of the school. This finding would be of immense benefit to the government, parents and guardians, educational administrators, teachers, students and the society to evolve strategies for improving the contributions of the PTA in secondary education. Based on the findings, it was recommended among other things that the PTA and school principals should make concerted efforts to improve and sustain the contributions of the PTA in raising school’s moral tone.
